About The Event

The award-winning Payadora Tango Ensemble's repertoire draws from Argentinian and Uruguayan traditions, including tangos, milongas, waltzes, and folk music such as the Zamba and chacarera, along with original songs inspired by these traditions. Endorsed by the Argentinian Consulate in Toronto, their performances showcase virtuosity, joy, humor, and passion. Payadora’s global success has garnered press coverage on the BBC, NPR, CBC, and more. In 2024, they will receive the Weltmusikpreis Ruth award at the Rudolstadt Festival in Germany and tour Poland and Austria. Their 2024-25 season includes tours of Atlantic Canada, Florida, and performances alongside PointeTango Dance Company, offering audiences a vibrant and innovative take on tango.

Recently, Payadora received the German world music prize and topped the World Music Charts in Europe with their latest album, Silent Tears: The Last Yiddish Tango. Their blend of classical, jazz, and world music elements has earned them widespread acclaim and a dedicated following. “The beloved ensemble that is tango and beyond. It is world. It is classical. It is jazz. It is tango…a delicious swirl of music that is the Payadora Ensemble.” - The New Classical FM 96.3
