Vitek Wincza is a ballet dancer originally from Gdansk, Poland. After defecting to Canada, in 1987 he became Artistic Director of the Hamilton Ballet School and in 1991, Artistic Director of the Canadian Ballet Youth Ensemble.

Under his artistic leadership, he created, choreographed, and produced productions such as the ballet “Snow White” which was invited to Kiev, Ukraine for an international theatre and dance festival and Wincza was awarded the silver medal for cultivating and maintaining the art of classical ballet by the Diaghlev Foundation, Moscow, Russia.

The Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra (HPO) commissioned Vitek to create and choreograph several performances for young audiences such as “Babar the Elephant” and “The Carnival of the Animals”. In 1993, he invited the Ballet di Napoli to bring “Marco Polo” on a tour of Hamilton, Toronto and Montreal. In 1995, Vitek comissioned Robert Desrosiers to create a modern dance version of “Pinocchio” for CBYE which toured extensively throughout Ontario. In 1997, he created, choreographed, and produced “Hamilton Nutcracker” with 30 dancers from Kiev Ballet Theatre (Ukraine), the HPO, and 90 local dancers. It ran to sold out capacity in Hamilton Place Theatre for 8 consecutive years. In 1996, the Government of Poland honoured Vitek with a cultural merit for outstanding contributions in the arts. In 1997, Vitek revived the 100 years history of the Hamilton Conservatory of Music into the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts an all arts school.
